You can define those as phases, instead of activities. Using the phase-
and project-templates, you can make templates for projects that occur
often (for example, if a lot of project contain the phases 'storage
cabinet' and 'credenza', you can put that in a template.
'living room' would be more of an activity, as it is likely that many
phases will contain an activity 'living room'.
(or the other way round)
(Although, this is strictly not an activity. It's probably what you
perform an activity on)
It just depends on what you want te register time on, or, what you need
in your reporting. If you don't care how much time is spend on the
kitchen in comparison with the living room, you shouldn't make separate
phases/activities for it.

Basically, it's up to you. You have 4 levels: customer -> project ->
phase -> activity. But those are merely names. It might just as well be
customer -> room -> cabinet -> item. (there's even a way to adjust the
terminology)
In the future, for Achievo 2.0, we also have a 'task' concept (with
subtasks), which will make it more flexible.
