Definitely a misconfiguration. Is Apache compiled ok? Have you restarted
apache after installing php?

Hi Scott,
Look at your Apache config.
Search for something like this:
   AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php3

The last items define how apache deliver a page
You can simply add the extension you need
