It sounds like your php was not built with mysql. Locate libphp4.so on
the machine and do an 'ldd libphp4.so'. There should be a line with
libmysqlclient.so.10 (the number may vary) if it has been built with
mysql support. If not, you'll need to rebuild php and make sure you
specify including mysql support.
