Extending Achievo
I began playing with Achievo "stable" and decided to go for the gusto
and replaced it with 0.9.0, running on RedHat 7.3, etc.
No problems and what a neat concept. I was able to take Ivo's "Part 1-
Developing Achievo Extensions" and within minutes have demonstrated
that it CAN be extended, just so long as your typing in the code Ivo
suggests is accurate.
I did get a little confused about whether the "class.newmodule.inc"
goes in the root directory or inside the "node folder". Turns out, it
only seems to work if the class.*.inc is in the node folder.
Also, the suggestion that the "extensions designation" in the
baseline "config.inc.php" needs a "trailing slash" does NOT seem to be
required.
But overall, after considering Relata and OPT, I think I'm going to
concentrate on Achievo as the "easiest to extend" of the leading
general purpose interfaces.
So far, the only aspect I see that would increase my initial enthusiasm
is if Achievo had a more easily interchanged database backend. It
works fine with MySQL, but I think I'm going to find places where it
could be quickly integrated but the target organizations would want to
run MSSql, Oracle or Postgres.
But that's NOT to say this is not useable "as is".
Thanks to all concerned with the baseline project and its continued
development.
