Re: [achievo] Holidays - what about them?
Hi,

I can say that we here solved the problem in the similar way: we have
a special "project" which is use only for registration of holidays,
illness etc. This is fine, but it:
- pollutes the statistics
I don't think it pollutes statistics. Statistics are per project, so the
'special project' has its own statistics.
- forces users to fill their off-days (this could be administrative
task)
I have been thinking about a way to enter a 'multi-day' time
registration. That makes it easier to book long vacations.
- it is not "the right thing" :)
I don't know. From some perspective you're right, but on the other hand,
time is time. Wether spend on actual work, or non work. If it's in
company time, it's good to register it. If you would book offdays in a
separate table, you wouldn't be able to report a full week of hours.
For holidays, there could be a holiday-profile defined by
administrator. Such profile would include all well-known off-days and
make achievo treat it as "Sundays" automatically.
Check the file class.holidays.inc in Achievo 0.9. It was intended for
just that. It was never finished though, as it would impose lots of
problems. Every year, you would have to enter a lot of holidays
manually. Some days are recurring, for example, Boxing Day is the same
date every year. But days like Easter move around a lot.
Then there's the difference in holidays from country to country. Each
country has its own holidays, so it is not easily standardisable.
There are also types of companies who work on holidays.
I think it needs some deeper thought...
It does. But it's probably complexer than you think. :)
